There is something about the smell of onions...

I love the smell of onions! I also love the aroma of fresh garlic, but let's focus on onions, specifically. Someone recently gifted me with a bag of pre-chopped refrigerated onions. I was happy to take the gift, of course. But, when it came around to using the onions about three days later, these onions weren't what I'd expected. When I picked up the package I could immediately see water or liquid at the bottom of the sealed bag. The onions looked noticeably more yellow than they did just three days before. Finally after opening the bag, I found that the onions were slimy and smelled "almost"-rotten. Needless to say, I threw the onions in the garbage.

Now, I always have big juicy onions on hand so I pulled out a giant white onion. These onions are so hot, they really burn my eyes. But I do enjoy them sometimes. I proceeded to cut up the onion and I really noticed and appreciated the smell. Honestly, I do this every time I cut an onion. It's like a spiritual experience to me. So, I'm sniffing this onion, and munching on it a bit, after lightly sprinkling it with salt, then I use it for whatever I'd been cooking. I washed my hands thoroughly a few times throughout and after the cooking process.

Later on that day, long after I'd eaten, someone told me I stink like an onion. I smelled my hands. They smelled delicious, like an onion! So, I guess, maybe, just maybe, there are two kinds of people in this world. People that love to smell like onions, and people who would rather not be around other people that smell like onions. And maybe a third group of people who don't care either way. My point is simply this, I love to smell like onions! I would be so happy if every single day, I cut up and onion for this reason or that reason. In fact, I will make that a goal of mine!

Until Next Time,

This summer (Summer 2014) I plan to go way overboard when it comes to things like jarring my own food, making jellies, growing mushrooms, growing pineapples, etc. I know. I have my work cut out for me. My garden always ties into my kitchen in one way or another since I'm usually cooking with something that I grew. So my garden and my kitchen go hand-in-hand.
